Thumbnails to Show You the Way
- Park in Black Gum Parking Area, which will be on your left just after a sharp bend in the road, as you are heading up toward the top of the mountain.
- Start on the trail at the marker, Black Gum Trail. As the trail splits immediately, stay to the right. The road will be on your right and you are following the red trail markers.
- At the 4-way intersection, stay straight on Black Gum Trail at the marker. You are still following the red trail markers.
- The trail will lead to a steep incline – take your time. You will keep walking on the trail.
- Eventually, you will see an open area on your right with a picnic table and a wooden placard sign. Do not go up the trail to the open area, however. The post will be on your left at this opening.
- Turn around and retrace your steps back to the parking area.

Snippets of Information
- Clay can be pinched, rolled, cut, or built up in layers to form shapes.
- As clay dries, it hardens and many times it is placed in a kiln to dry and harden it.
- Clay can often be found where water once was, like in a dried-up stream.
